EDITED

The original was a single image tute, so now i have re-made it. Here goes

1. First Open your picture. Im using this one royalty free one from http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtm

Posted Image

2. then add a new layer, and click the quickmask icon You may want to zoom in here.

Posted Image

3. select a round fuzzy brush thats just a bit smaller than than the iris and gently erase the mask over both Irises until there is no mask showing

Posted Image

4. unclick the qmask and see if you are happy with it

Posted Image

5. Choose a colour. I have picked 00c600.

6. Bucket fill the selection. go to select > None

Posted Image

7. Change the Layer Mode to either "colour" or "hue", depending on the effect you like best. If you want it vibrant, choose colour and play with the opacity settings untill you are happy.

Posted Image

8. Just use the smudge tool to gently feather the edges and create a natural look.

9. If its looking good, then merge the layer down.

10. save your image.

is it just my Gimp or is Quickmask Pretty Tempremental?

Or is there something im not doing>?

all that seems to happen is that when i unclick Quick mask, it it just disapears and i dont have any selected area? Sometimes i do, and sometimes i dont. im doing exactly the same thing as i always do but this happens quite frequently.

Thanks!
This is the first tutorial I'm able to follow :-)

But it's pretty boring and non-accurate for hair, for example. Isn't it better to use that vector tool (B key - sorry, non-english version).

I can't get it to work. I got up to the quick mask and that's all. My gimp won't let me bucket fill the images. Am I doing something wrong?
