Here's the base warp speed tunnel scripts. Right now, they only create the background. Depending on the route I decide to go, I'll either build additional options into the base script or create separate script(s) for adding features to the animation (such as text effects or moving objects).

Here's some sample images:

Space Tunnel

Polar Coordinates Space Tunnel

Additionally, you can modify the parameters to create cool things like this (Setting the Circle Depth Start/Finish at 270 & leaving the other parameters at the default):

Posted Image

Here's the previous image with the setting the Circle Depth Start/Finish at 270 & setting the Offset Angle Start at 0 and the Offset Angle Finish at 359)

Posted Image

Lastly, here's the ping-pong version with the Ping-Pong option selected, the Circle Depth Start setting at -270 and the Circle Depth Finish at 270.

To create these animations, you will need the following scripts:

FP's animated fire script
FP's space tunnel script
FP's square polar coordinates tunnel script
FP's reverse layers script

Open the zip files and save the .scm files to your GIMP scripts folder (ie...C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts). Refresh your scripts and you're ready to go. The scripts can be located under the Filters > Animation >

Posted Image

On an open image, go to Filters > Animation > Animated Fire... and choose the desired settings (you can use any gradient of your choice) and hit OK:

Posted Image

When the new animation image is finished being created, go to Filters > Animation > Space Tunnel... or Filters > Animation > Animated Polar Coordinates...

The scripts will do the rest.

If you want to reverse the direction of the animation, go to Filters > Animation > Reverse Layers...

That's it! Let me know if you have any suggestions or trouble.

P.S. I tried the suggestion by Oregonian to use a brush in the middle to hide the hole created by tunnel process. It worked well, but it was kind of unsightly and I found a different method that had better results. Thanks for the suggestion, O. I was hoping it would work too.

I like what you did for the center of the Space Tunnel. Looks good!

I don't know what caused the vertical white line in the upper center of my image. I closed and reopened gimp twice to see if it was some residual lingering stuff from using the map object filter but that line appeared every time. Using gimp 2.6.8 on Linux.

I need to see if I can use gap to shrink an image using the layer resize plugin (if there is one).

Very, very cool scripts fencepost!!! Thanks so much for all your work.

This makes my eyes go crazy. After gazing at it, looking away at another image makes it look like it's expanding. :o

Nice work, O! Can't figure out the white line either. I'm doing some tests right now. Will let you know if I come up with anything conclusive.

I get the same kind of white line in the Space Tunnel script.

There was no layer-resize plug-in in the Modify Frames dialog so went with Whirl & Pinch.

Video > Move Path > Scale and Modify tab should work.

Yes, I agree on it being odd. It's almost like something's supposed to go 360° and doesn't quite make it.

I'll try the move path suggestion you suggested.

Maybe try one of the other gradients?

O, is your "Add Border" option turned on? If so, try turning it off. I tried that and came out with the same problem you had.

I tried several gradients in each script, some of them ones I made, same results.

Will check the add border feature.

EDIT: Add border was checked, I unchecked it and no white line. Woo Hoo! Maybe if it were not checked by default?

I did your suggestion about scaling and modifying and while I was in there I decided to make my guy spin.

A better one below.

Open up the fire script and scroll all the way to the bottom until you see this:

Change the word TRUE to FALSE. Save the script and refresh. You should be good to go.

Here is one without the white line. I will delete the one above that has the white line in it.

Help! The Space Tunnel script has gone bonkers on me.

I've closed and reopened gimp three times to make sure I was starting with a clean image.

I wanted a small one - 168X100. It looks like it's cropping to the white dot that fills the hole on each layer. All of the layers are cropped to small rectangles of varying sizes. I've uploaded an xcf file of one of my results (the last ones generated).

Link removed. Image is no longer available. - O

Yep, it's a BAD flaw. Just discovered it myself this evening and have been feverishly working on a solution. We may have to settle for a less desirable solution to filling in the hole in the center, but at least it will work in all cases. Sorry about that. I hope to post an update tomorrow.

Instead of a dot to fill the hole, could you have it generate a matching solid background and combine it with the finished layers?

The script seems to work fine if it's a larger document. This one iI started with 350x350px. I made a new gradient using the incandescent gradient, changed the colors to blue to cyan to make it look more like electricity. I like the fire-colored one the best. These are 20 frames and moving at 80ms. Not sure what speed to set them at.

shall I wait until the script is re-done until I download? I was just getting ready to download until I read the last entries.

You could dl the one that's there now, then when the updated script is posted delete the old one and install the new one.

The space tunnel is the only one with a problem and it seems to work fine on larger images. The image I was trying to make it work on was 168x100px. You can try other sizes to find out where the script goes bonkers.

Nice work, O! Very cool animations! I haven't had a chance to work on the script today and probably won't get to it til tomorrow. I could add a solid color at the end, but may just end up using the same texture that's being made into the tunnel. Probably the easiest solution.
