Hahaha, that's what I always do.

I usually listen to Paramore, Falling Up, Saosin, Akissforjersey, and many more bands.

I actually made a "graphics inspiration playlist".

I have never tried to "be" the sig. I'll have to try that ;)

i usually just try something i havent done, like a different style. ive done stuff like first smudge, vector, abstract, etc.
music usually works to. :D

I don't think it matters if inspiring sigs are made in PS...in fact, that's all the more to inspire you...the challenge of recreating the look using Gimp! It's one way to learn a lot more about Gimp, too!
