Some playing around with colour and making water. Took some two hours or so.

Painting done from scratch in mypaint, with finalization in GIMP. There is now a mypaint+GIMP tutorial on this picture, you can find it here: water-in-nature-mypaint-+-gimp-tutorial--t38518.html

Comments are, as always, appreciated. :)

Back when I used to frequently visit here I remember the artwork you brought to the forum. It was different to what I'd normally see and was always a great style.

Coming back and it is great to see you still around here producing some awesome artwork. This image has a rather serene feeling to it. The light filtering through is a nice touch, and it is expert work on how the rippled reflections have come out.

Very nice Griatch. :)

It looks like there is a fairy convention being held in the middle of the island trees! It reminds me of the movie "Ferngully". The reflections in the water definitely give it the feeling that the water is gently flowing.

Short hijack - do you know of a way to get a grid up in MyPaint?

@Fatal Edge
Wow, welcome back, Fatal Edge! Good to see you and your anime avatars again. ;) Thanks for the nice comment too, glad you like it.

@2-ton
It could indeed be a faerie convention, who knows. :) I haven't seen this 'Ferngully' movie, is it any good?

@Astapp
Lots of work on the water, glad it shows!

@Songwind
In mypaint 0.6 you can get a gridded background if you want by selecting one of the pattern for your background canvas. But there is no gimp-like overlay-grid per se as far as I know.

haha, Ferngully is a kids animated movie...I doubt you'd really care about it. It's the usual story...fairy type little creatures and their forest home being threatened by the big bad bulldozer. The best part is the bat...played with hilarity by Robin Williams.

Very nice and serene choreography with some mysterious , maybe elfish lights dancing on the island...you rendered a good yet peaceful flow for the water i may even imagine a thin mist here and there

No suggestions of sort..

is simple, but much less simple of what appear at first glance, ....even simple is not exact: the idea is of of peaceful simplicity somehow merged with touches of magic

I will not add not subtract anything from there ...except that may also be a scenario... i may imagine zooming in , maybe following some flying creature in FG ,and see a close up of that island , of what beyond the trees and bushes.... closing on that mysterious lights dance and on what may be revealed by the lights

@Photocomix

Thanks for the comment. I was aiming for a calm and serene feel, glad it is conveyed. It would be a fun idea to make an animation out of this, but man, how much work!

There is now a tutorial based on this image, the Water in Nature tutorial water-in-nature-mypaint-+-gimp-tutorial--t38518.html
