Hey. I know I'm new. I was at my friends forums and they DELETED my tutorial. I knew that it could be used somwhere else, and my effort would not go to waste.

Enjoy.

This is Probably my first and last post.
---------------------------------

First off, if you don't have it, you can download it here for free...

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Download version 2.2.10

Section 1: Getting a render [GIMP]

1.) Go here. http://www.render-world.com/gallery/
2.) Search for the render you want....
Posted Image
3.) Then click on it.
4.) Get the full-sized version of it and save it. (right click on it, and save it to desktop, for quick access)
Posted Image

Section 2: Editing the pic [GIMP]

1.) Go to File>Open
2.) Click on desktop, and find the pic.
Posted Image
3.) Go to Tools>Color Tools>Color Balance
4.) Fool around with the bars, until it's the right color.
5.) Go to Image>Scale Image
6.) Make the width 150, and click on the other box, and it will change to another number by default.
Posted Image
7.) Your picture is now small and colored!

Section 3: Making a cool-looking sig [GIMP]

First off, If you don't have GIMP, you can download it here for free. http://gimp-win.sour...net/stable.html

1.) Okay, open up GIMP.
2.) Go to File>New
3.) Set the properties like I have here.
Posted Image
4.) Go to Filters>Renders>Patterns>Grid
5.) Just focuse on the "Horizontal" and "Vertical" columns. Set the width of Horizontal to both of them to one. Then, set the spacing of both of them to seven. Then, set the Offset of both of them to eight. It should look like this...
Posted Image
6.) Alrighties. Now, go to Dialogs>Layers
7.) Click the "New Layer" button at the bottom.
Posted Image
8.) Just click "OK" on the window that pops up, keep everything the same.
9.) Open up your "Layers" box again, and click on the "New layer" ( Making it higlighted and active )
Posted Image
10.) K, go back to your sig. Go to Filters>Render>Clouds>Solid Noise
11.) Alrighty. Another window. Just put this stuff in.
Posted Image
12.) Ok, now go to Tools>Color Tools>Color Balance
13.) Fool around with the bars until you have your desired color. I'm going to have Green.
Posted Image
14.) With that done, grab your render and paste it into the sig.
15.) Click the "Grab" icon.
Posted Image
16.) Now, move your render around until you have it in the spot you want it in.
Posted Image
17.) Now, type your name in the sig...
18.) Go to Script-Fu>Décor>Add Border
19.) Adjust the settings like this...(You can change the color of it)
Posted Image
20.) Open up your "Layers" box, and click on the "New Layer" and lower the opacity of it....(probably around 90.2)
Posted Image
21.) And, yeah! You did it!

Oh...um....well, here's another render site...

http://www.clantempl...enders/gallery/

(copy and paste it into the address bar)

By the way, you don't NEED a render for a sig...it's optional...

Great Tut.
But I couldn't get the hang of the colour balance thing, So I simply made a new layer with the colour I wanted and set it to overlay...You're not gonna eat me are you? ;;

But yeah, easy for Newbies, and still yields great results. Nice work :l:

You can either click on the layer and drag it, or use the little arrows at the bottom of the layer dialog. You can't move the background layer unless you first add an alpha channel to it. Either right click on it and click "Add Alpha Channel", or do Layer>Transparency>Add Alpha Channel. The alpha channel is what allows for transparency.

As for selecting layers, just click on them. Whatever you do on your canvas happens on that layer only (unless the layers are linked, and that only supports certain functions).

Each layer has an "eye" icon. Clicking it turns the layer on and off. Next to it is an icon that looks like a chain. Normally it is off. Clicking turns it on, each layer with a chain icon turned on is linked. So if you use the move tool and move one layer that is part of a linked group, they all move. An example would be if you created a text layer and a drop shadow layer for it underneath. You could link them, then move both together to position the text/dropshadow wherever you wanted.

Layers can be smaller or larger than your canvas. For instance, often when you create a text layer it is surrounded by a yellow dashed line. That is the layer boundary for that layer. If you do Layer>Layer to Image Size (can also use right click ont he layer), the yellow line goes away, now the layer is the same size as the canvas.
