NOTICE: This tutorial was not made by me! It was made by a friend of mine on The Freeware Forum. I just re worded it so it'll be easier for you all to understand.

1. Go to Layer/Transparancy/Add Alpha Channel and click delete on the layer.
2. Select your Rectangular Select Tool and make a rectangle.
3. Select your Bucket Fill Tool and change your FG (foreground) color to b0a090.
4. Now fill in the rectangle with the color we've selected.

NOTE: Leave the rectangle selected as it's an important part in this tutorial. (right click the layer and click on add alpha channel if you don't already have an alpha channel)

This is what your image should look like so far.

9. Select your Gradient Tool.
10. Change your Gradient to FG to Transparent.

12. Copy the rectangle and paste it 1px next to the other rectangle (make sure their side by side with a 1px gap on the side)

This is what your image should look like so far.

13. Now just mess with Colors/Curves...

Your final image should look something like these two.
