Before we begin, You will need a scanline pattern (If you don't have one) and the Kaleidoscope animation script.
Scanline Pattern
Kaleidoscope Animation Script (When you install it, it will be in Filters->Animators->Kaleidoscope...)
All Images in this tutorial are Clickable Thumbnails!
Step 1:
Create a 500X500 Pixel Image.
On a new white layer (Name it "Brush") use some deafult brushes to brush a bit in Gray shades (no color!)

Step 2:
Apply a Pick Filter (Filters->Noise->Pick) on the maximal settings

Step 3:
Create a new layer - this will be used as a displacement map. Brush with any brush (I used the Vine Brush with gradient color)

Step 4:
Hide the displacement map and then displace your "Brush" layer with the layer that we just created as a displacement map. (I used Polar Displacement with 20 for the value of the Whirl and Pinch)

Step 5:
Invert the colors of the layer (Colors->Invert) and then Equalize the layer (Colors->Auto->Equalize). Invert the colors again.

Step 6:
Now we need to extract the gray BG and turn it back to white, So we will use Colors->Auto->White Balance

Step 7:
Filters->map->Displace... Now use on the same mode as before but Invert the values (Example: Turn 20 to -20)

Step 8:
Colors->Color to Alpha... Select white as your color and click OK.
Bring the alpha of the layers alpha to selection (Right click on it in the layers window and click "Alpha to Selection").
Set your Pattern to a Scanline and Fill your selection with it.

Step 9: (This step is Optional but I highly recomend this step)
On this layer, use the Kaleidoscope animation script (provided with this tut) with the deault settings. A new Image Should pop. Check how each layer looks (hide the other layers to see only one layer at a time - Shift+Click with your mouse in the layers dialog on the left part where the eye icon should appear to set a layer exclusivly visible) untill you find something that you like.

Step 10 - Properly Saving the Brush:
Delete all the layers except for the layer with your final brush on it. Then do Image->Autocrop Image. Change the image's mode: Image->Mode->Grayscale.
Set the BG color to White. Remove the alpha channel: Layer->Transpercy->Remove Alpha Channel.
File->Save as... Give your file the ending .gbr (Example: MyBrush.gbr)

In this window above the Spacing to 25 and then enter your Brush's name.
