Unlike sepia toning or other gradient toning methods, a power tone gives 2 gradients: neutral grey and the color gradient of choice. Can be used to reduce the overall colors in a capture for offset printing (used a lot for this actually) as well as convey a cool look.

Start by duplicating for a total of three layers, set the Top layer to Value and the Center layer to Saturation and fill the Base layer with the color of choice. How simple is that. Not, I don't program Script-fu's, but if someone out there does, I would appreciate it. :)

its nice and simmple though i see why it would be called powertoning, perhaps a tad too much however that is easily changeable so i think its a great little trick

It also makes it look like an infrared picture

Hey folks. Al (a.k.a. Fencepost) just PMed that he created a Script that implements the above. Haven't actually tested this one yet (just finished my updates from "Uncle Bill's" website), but Al shows the result of his script where he's hosting it too. :)

Edit: Just tested; works great and saves a lot of layer dups and things. Thanks Al. :)

I also like that result. I want to try it out on a bit of video via GAP. I think that will produce some interesting effect applying this method to video via GAP.

Thanks for letting me experiment with your technique in script form. As I said to you in my PM, this was my first "real" script and even the simple nature of the tutorial proved to be challenging for me from the scripting aspect.....my brain isn't wired for programming, but I shall continue forward as I've been bitten by the scripting bug.

For all you seasoned scripters out there, forgive me if things aren't quite right. It worked and I went with it! :w:

Cheers!

Yes PC; the OX let us all down unfortunately. I never keep any of my online renditions (well, only a very few) either trusting in the host to keep them. Lot's of laughs for your adventure that led you back to this site too. Anyway, below's a link to a tut that I did several years ago (used the Shack then and my images still are there; yeah). :)
