Hey everyone, I'm back with another tutorial.
This time you will learn how to make a cool grunge background like this:
Posted Image

So, lets get started. First open up a new canvas with a white BG.
http://www.filepact.com/files/9751.bmp

Now, get out your gradient tool. Use the gradient BG to FG with the bg as black and fg as white:

Go back to your canvas, and click around a bunch of times. try to get something like this:
http://www.filepact.com/files/7603.bmp

Now go to Filters>Distorts>Emboss and use these settings:
http://www.filepact....381filters3.bmp

Your result should be something like this:
http://www.filepact.com/files/9604.bmp

Now use the same BG-FG gradient and brush around a few more times:
http://www.filepact.com/files/8235.bmp

Duplicate the bg layer:

With the background copy layer selected, go to filters>distorts>emboss and use these settings:
http://www.filepact....860filters5.bmp

Now go to filters>noise>pick and use these settings:
http://www.filepact....645filters6.bmp

You should get something like this:
http://www.filepact.com/files/7806.bmp

Now set this layer's layer mode to overlay.

You should get this:

One more step! Grab a good colorful gradient. I used German Flag Smooth. Now go to filters>colors>map> gradient map.

You've completed Frodo's grunge background tut.
Any color gradient will work on the last step., as long as its not B&W.

I plan to make another tutorial on how to encorporate this into a signature.

Godzilla
Fire Text

cytz, it says right there.

I used a white-black gradient and set it on difference, then clicked a bunch of times.
And the gradient tool is the one that looks like a little square fading from green to white.

Then click around a bunch of times, and you're ready for emboss.

Thanks the green gecko. and here's the result I made with the grunge bg:
