I upgraded to the new Ubuntu distribution and gimp 2.4 was included. The issue I wave is that the green circle that shows your brush lingers where-ever it's been, which is rather obnoxious, anyone know a solution, I've googled all over for this.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "green circle". If it's the case where white is being displayed as green, then I'd suggest disabling color management, which seems to have problems with 2.4. I use 2.2.17 and Windows XP so I don't know much else. Further explanation and perhaps a screenshot could be helpful to further explain.
It's amazing what mathematics can do for artwork!

I wonder if it is some kinda X window issue between Gimp and X, but I don't know enough to say anything further about it.

I just recently left Xubuntu myself because of things like this. One thing that you might try would be to look into doing a source compile of Gimp. Kind of a tedious option, but it might solve things.

I have the same issue on Debian Etch. It's a video card/driver problem. I have Radeon 7000 card, and green circles appear in Gimp-2.4.2 with open source ati driver. There are no any circles with vesa driver, but then xrandr doesn't work properly. It's a different issue, though.
