Alright class today we will be making those ohso great no brush sigs! most of you don't like to use other peoples brushes so for you this will be very good. Before you accept this class just hear a few things about me I don't give out exact setting to use because
#1. too much work to get all hte pics
#2. everyone has their own styles I like mine and you like yours so if I gave you my style and settings what fun would that be?

Class needs:
1.Gimp
2.Basic knowledge of filters (we will use lots of filters)
--- Steps-----
Step 1
Open up a white or black Doc-u-ment ie. (370x130) I suggest you use this size or any where around it because the larger it gets the less good it looks because there aren't any brushes!
Step 2
Now you wan't to go to [filter/render/clouds/plasma] You wan't to make it as "edgy" or rough looking as possible thats what makes it look good!Posted Image
Destaturate that layer (It should be black and white if you did it correctly) destaturating everything will allow you to make it a different color at the end.
Step 3
Now with your plasma destaturated you wan't to go to [layer/newlayer] this is where we are going to make you background more interesting!
Posted Image
once you have your new layer add some clouds by going to [filters/render/clouds/solidnoise] again you wan't it too look as detailed as possible but this time not as much because the clouds get beveled the more you go and that doesn't look too good. You wan't to set the cloud layer on overlay this will blend it together and make the background better. If you don't like the way it looks go back and fix it remember there is no wrong in graphics!
Step 4 *this part is optional but will make it look better*
You wan't to open up your patterns pallete and find the pattern that looks like a sky. Put that on a new layer by going over to that pattern clicking a dragging on your work onto the new layer.
Posted Image
now with 3 layers (plasma/clouds/sky) all their it's starting to look better but now it's going to get even better! Destaturate the sky like pattern and set it to layer mode:overlay. Next you can repeat step 4 but this time rotate by w/e degree you wan't this'll add even more effect to it but again you don't have to.

Alright so you have a basic background looking kind of good right? Well Now it is going to get even better! So you either 4/5 layers (Sky/sky rotated if you did that/plasma/clouds) It's looking a little bright isn't it well here is how and what we will do to get it to be the best brushless sig IMO

-------steps-------
Step 5
Open up your Doc-u-ment and add a new layer and stroke a gradient across it (the gradient should be black to white or vice versa)
Posted Image
now that you have a black and white layer on top pull out the smudge tool (looks like a finger) and do quick strokes by clicking dragging and un-clicking do that until the whole thing is filled up and keep going make sure to cross/jagged/forward/backward/up/down/sideways make sure that a lot of smudges are crossing and overlapping this makes it looks really interesting and good!
Posted Image
Alright so do you have it all smudged up? Emboss that layer by going to [Filter/distorts/emboss] and fool with settings make sure to use a high depth amount because IMO that looks better so now it looks like a jagged porcupine back almost well set that layer on overlay and look how cool it makes the background!

step 6
So you have this sweet looking background with what almost looks like brushes in it well now this is the time for cleanup
#1. add a render by going to either http://www.pimpmysig.com or any other place you like the best
Posted Image
#2. some color by doing what ever coloring style you like my favorite is probably [layer/colors/colorize]
#3. Add border that fits your render and signature usually a 1 px. black border works for just about anything
#4. Go and add some text that fits your style of signature

that's it for this lesson so hope you come back to my lessons more often

feel free to use any of the techniques that I used in this lesson but please give me a little credit
