today, we will be making cursors that you can use as your mouse.

first, open gimp and create a new 32*32 px image with a transparent background. Zooming in, draw an arrow (not too big) in the bottom left hand corner so that the tip is in the pixel 0,32.

The draw what ever you want in the left over space.
Posted Image
Save it as an *.ico file. Go to where you saved your file an rename it *.cur (the star represents the name that you called youre file).
Posted Image
I use windows, so I mac and linux users wil have to adapt. Now, click of the start button of the bottom left corner of the screen
Posted Image
then press settings, and from that list select control panel. From the folder that appears, select the mouse file and open it. once opened, go to the tab marked pointers or cursor.
Posted Image
You will now see a list of mouse pointers. double click the one that has Normal select writen next to it, and in the window that pops up, go to the folder that contains your soursor amd open the coursor. now click aply and your mouse corusor will change in to the one you made.

-----

Also, to make cursors that you an chose where the "clicking spot" is, you can download this program and follow these insturctions:

Do the same as above, (you dont need to do the arrow part, because you will be able to chose where your "clicking spot" will be) but save the image as a PNG. Then run RW- cursor editor and click create new, then create from image. Select your png image and open it. After the image apears, click on the crosshair tool in the tools bar and click where you want the "clicking spot" to be. Then save your image as a cursor file and follow the same rutine of going through control panel as explained above.

Coments appreciated :w:

This is pretty awesome man, I did it, and now my cursor is pretty sweet, but you don't have to use that program, just make the tail of the cursor, be stretched across the whole canvas, and if it is to big, and you can just cut it, out, and paste it into a smaller document.

Is there any way to make your cursor animated? I''ve got some pretty cool ideas for some animated ones.

holy crap looks like you have a lot of brushes! :o:

lol anyway nice tut

BTW Zetta_Fett, I'm not sure but you could try saving it with multiple layers as if you're about to save an animated gif.

It might use a different format though I'm not sure if GIMP saves in this cursor format though ....

Cool. I've actually done the same thing without looking at your tut but the only problem is that they have to be contrained to be really tiny. I made a foot cursor and it turned out squashed! But, great tut, real simple and to-the-point.
pixkid@macmini~$ open -a Gimp.app
bash: you want fries with that
pixkid@macmini~$ echo No thank you, I am on a diet.
bash: you make me feel unloved with your excuses
pixkid@macmini~$ echo What? Are you insinuating that I do not eat your food? When did shells ever execute commands relevant to cooking?
bash: shells duh ever think of seafood
pixkid@macmini~$ echo No fair, stop searching puns, you have Lynx and Google to use!
bash: ugh you humans are so annoying
bash: logout
