Having mostly worked on Fantasy stuff lately, I felt a normal human was due. Not much of a story behind the scene; I just wanted a relaxed, summery picture now that it's dark and cold outside. :-)

Technical info:

Done from beginning to end in GIMP 2.2.13 under Linux Debian. Work time some 10 hours all in all. No scanning involved.

It's mostly done with the airbrush (opacity set to 50% if you've read any of my tutorials) over a total of 14 layers (including sketch layers and initial concept sketch layers -- the actual drawing layers are ). This is a reduced size version; orginal was done in 2580x3508 pixels size (A4 at 300DPI), at which you see the dimples in her skin much clearer. Ah well.

I used two filter effects in total: First was a desaturated plasma selection under her skin to give it a touch of structure. The second was a blurred copy of her skin layer set to Overlay for a warmer feel and deeper colour. Didn't record any WIP pictures for this one though, sorry.

You can see the layer layout of the image in the screenshot here.

More details you can find in my Deviant gallery (link below), comments there would be appreciated too of course. :-)

@Jackal54

Yes, this is done with a Wacom drawing tablet. A mouse would work too, but you have to work slower using a mouse, since you have to build up shades more gradually when you have no pressure sensitivity.

Thanks for the comments!

@Ti-Louis

Thanks; I've had several comments on those eyes, I can only say that there really are people with almond eyes like that, and looking upwards that's how they'll look. :-)

@sir hobo

Thanks for the comment!

A Wacom drawing tablet is a replacement for the mouse; allows you to draw with a pen instead of the mouse. It is a piece of hardware, so of course it's not free. Prices for various brands vary greatly (I've seen quotes from $25 up to $120), I use a Wacom tablet, a brand which is commonly believed to be the best. One of their homepages: http://www.wacom.com...phire/index.cfm

There are plenty of discussion on this in the threads of my tutorials, like in this one; here.

You can draw this with a mouse too though; it's just slower. Just getting a better quality mouse will probably help you too.

Hmm, please elaborate. What in particular do you think I should work on with the shirt?

I'm guessing but maybe that green / white blotch just below the collar looks a little odd?

Nah, I suspect the issue he had really was Gargoyle's suggestion -- the bleached spot on her shirt, which I happen to think is kinda cute. :-)

The image works now at least ... Otherwise you can find the Dreamer in my DA gallery.
