Step 1
[*]Start Gimp
[*]Go to menu Xtns > Script-Fu > Patterns then click Render Map, as shown here:

After clicking this menu item, another windows will appear (note: if window is not appearing then see your taskbar, because sometimes it is available but minimized), window must look like this:

Simply click the right-most button OK
After clicking this button GIMP will process a new document and create a random map for you, as shown here:

Step 2
In the same Image window you can see menus on top, from these menus select Filters > Map and click Map Object as shown here:

After clicking this menu a new Filter window will appear, almost like following:

You simply select Sphere from the list in front of label Map to:.
Globe is ready. Now you have some more options if you want a transparent globe, simply check the checkbox labeled Transparent background.

Now click button OK and the Globe is ready, as shown here:

You may copy this new layer form Layers' tab and paste in desired image or even export to desired image format and reuse it in other applications. To have its transparency maintained, we suggest you to export it to PNG (Portable Network Graphics) image format.
