I have 1,000s from old negs from our family and photos dating back 150 years or more. I am trying to get them on line to save them. I am using a Vupoint hand scanner that has a 1050DPI. what dpi would be suitable to get clear scans. Also when I open them in Gimp, step 1 i size and invert the image. some are very clear but most are way to dark or light. I have been using the color brightness-contrast tool to help fix and Auto tool to normalize. These are doing ok for the most part. If anyone knows of a better way to improve the quality of my images I would love a mentor on these.
