That's a GAP function. Need to have GAP installed first.

idk whats happening and ive read your answers and tut several times but when i press ctrl+K, it doesnt delete the bg.

also pressing enter connects some of the path pts and it draws lines over my img. what am i doing wrong this time?

This appears to be a common problem with some users and the Ctrl-K function. It might be a particular GIMP version or maybe you're using GIMPshop, but sometimes the keyboard shortcuts get changed. In the GIMP main window, go to preferences. You can change the keyboard shortcut there.

I have been now fighitng GIMP from 8am... now it's 4pm.. I was just giving up.. thought I don't have anymore ideas what to do.. then I realize I haven't learned to cut out renders so I visit your other tutorial.. then I see that I need to know paths.. I thought I knew but when I came here I was amazed ! very nice work ! You gave me hope and inspiration and a new skill once again ! :l:

I setted myself a long and hard assigment and the time limit is 3 weeks I was giving up on it but this helped alot !
I will be posting my results later in the week, my test week just passed and finished all but 3 courses in school so I now have time to learn about gimp !

Anyway thank you very much for this ! It help's a lot !
I'm off to try somethings with this and then I will be reading your render thing tutorial, because it's almost impossible to do anything without knowing that skill !

Fencepost, in the tut all I see in the example images is the path tool icon you see when holding over the image window. Is there supposed to be example images there?

There should be images. They're showing up fine on my end. Maybe photobucket was acting weird when you tried?

I have however managed to follow anyway and well chuffed with this tut, now I know paths.

I am stuck however on the text part of the tut. I am using Sans Bold size 80 and have tried with guidlines and without but when I select the path tool and try to activate the path all I get is a new anchor and when I look in the paths dialog I have a new path called unnamed?

What have I done wrong?

Oh I just turned off ZoneAlarm Pro and they have all appeared! I must try to figure out what it is that it is doing to stop them showing??

I don't know what the trouble is with editing the path as I've never had that happen. Maybe double-click the path tool button and choose Edit in the toobar window. I don't have to do this step, but maybe it's functioning different on your machine.

Nope, no joy?

What I have is a background layer and a text layer. I have the text layer active and it is displayed on the image window with yellow ants in a rectangle. After I alpha to selection, to path, path tool and then hover mouse over the path the cursor remains as ready to place new anchor. Nowhere on the path does it change to a hand?

Any ideas anybody?

Fencepost, I am unsure if I should post my image here, but seeing as I had such a struggle to get to grips with it and after studying your excellent tut I have come up with this

The statue is from a photo I took a month ago and knew that I would want to use it some how in some way and thanks to you I have!

Excellent work! You did a great job cutting out that picture! Did you make the background as well or is it a separate picture?

By using your tutorial to create this image I know fully understand the concepts of layers and the power they bring to create great images.
