Well, my first tut, so, I hope this goes well! Anyways, without further ado,
GIMP In Linux: Getting the "basics" in
You have a Linux machine. You saw some great Photoshop brushes. You don't want to create some werid-o program to run them, nor can Photoshop run on Linux. You also see a great GAP tutorial. You think, "I wish I had Windows, then I could run all of these great things..." Don't worry, you can. So don't go deleting that great OS of yours!
GAP
GAP (GIMP Animation Package, I think) is a set of plugins that allow users to create animations using seperate images, not just layers. Normally, in Windows, you'd double click an EXE file, and it'd run, installing the plug-ins for you. The same goes for Linux. For RPM-based distros, goto:
http://rpm.pbone.net
and do a search for "gimp-gap" and download you're rpm. Dblclick it and it'll install the plugins. Done!
Debian-based people:

PSPI
You saw those wonderous brushes and said, "I'll pay $500 for those, and those alone..." Well, DON'T! You can use them, for free! (Unless you have to pay to get them...) GIMP users rejoice; there is a solution. Tor Lillqvist created a plugin for GIMP that allows GIMP users to use PS plugins! For linux users, though, this isn't a point-and-click operation. FIrst, download the INSTALLER! Don't download the source - it doesn't have the GIMP plugin script required for Linux-GIMP to register it as a plugin. Now, don't run it, but unpack it. It should create a directory called "usr". Open it, and follow it to the created GIMP 2.0 Plugins folder. Now, copy "pspi" and "pspi.exe.so" to your-home-directory/.gimp-2.2/plug-ins/.
Now, re-run GIMP, and enjoy the great benefits of these wonderous extensions! Create that great movie! Use Photoshop plugins! Have fun, and most of all, continue GIMP-ing!
NOTE: I'll find ways to install anymore plugins if anyone asks. But, remember: I'm a Linux user, not a Windows user. Sorry, people. :c:
