PLEASE HELP ME- Deserately trying to perform the seemingly impossible task of turning a piece of text white.

Does the color white exist in GIMP 2.8?

I can choose the color white manually, or choose it with color picker tool...

But whenever applied anywhere it appears bright yellow, not white. When saved is exactly the same butterfuckingcup yellow

I have tried VIEW > DISPLAY FILTERS and removing color management. Still no use.

I can open a file with white text, and it will appear white, but if I try to create one I waste my time...

ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED....

ANY ATTEMPT TO FIX THIS BUG EVEN MORE APPRECIATED. Disgruntled Pete

Disgruntled Pete,

I think that your image is in the wrong color mode.

Clicks image>>>mode>>>rgb.

That will probably fix it.

What a stupid feature/default setting that is....
Thankyou, you've inevitably saved hours of my life. Not-so-Disgruntled Pete.

You're welcome. Just so you know, it's not a default setting in Gimp - some images store some funny image modes, and Gimp simply loads what information that is given to it. 9 times out of 10 this odd thing won't happen, but when it does always check your color mode first.

Likely you loaded an "indexed color" file (applies to all GIF, and some PNG). Going from indexed to RGB is usually a bad idea if you want to save again as indexed (back to GIF) because you'll likely force fit a new set of colors and your image won't look correct (it can develop a bad case of blockiness). GIF shouldn't be considered editable images for most purposes. They are a final format a bit like PDF produced from text.
