A quiet forest scene illustration for some chapter in book II. Mara, the protagonist, learns to converse with the trees.

Made some revisions to the original "Look Closer," mainly to the girl and the lighting. In fact, Mara aside, this is basically the exact same scene with only a difference in the lighting. I think it's neat to see the differences generated by lighting alone.

Hopefully, this time it is a bit more clear what is going on.

I doubled the "intensity" of the faces (hence the alt title). It shouldn't be immediately obvious that they're there - but the vast majority of them shouldn't be hard to locate. Mara is no longer too shy to face the "camera". I think that helps alert the viewer that there is something more to the forest than what is revealed in a quick glance. Some of the easiest faces to find are in the light beam that caught her eye.

The forest has also been broken up. As Griatch pointed out, the original forest (a solid block of foliage) wasn't quite so realistic. The gaps in the greenery allowed for more play with the light - and I took the opportunity to add in some more color. Finally, I deleted two faces. The sign has been updated accordingly. I like having a prime number.

Revised version at top of thread.
