Right Mouse Button, how to change ... ... a command?

I'd like to change what the right mouse button does. I went to EDIT > PREFERENCES > INPUT CONTROLLERS and tried to see where to change this (and I did successfully for the mouse wheel last week) but I couldn't find under MOUSE BUTTONS what would control what command is accessed via the right mouse wheel.

Does anyone know how to make a change in the preferences to what the right mouse wheel does? I know where's the most likely place to go to find the command; it's just where to access the right mouse wheel that has me stumped.

Thanks! :)

"right mouse wheel": you have a mouse with two wheels?

Ha, ha, very funny :P :)

I used "right mouse button" elsewhere, just got confused there for a second. I'm speaking about the right mouse BUTTON, of course!

Any way to customize action? I can probably figure out very easily how to assign action, I just can't find where to assign the action TO (the right mouse BUTTON).

Thanks! <g>

All gaming mice come with 3 scroll wheels minimum now. It's the only way to get the edge on those still using 2wheel mice.

But about your question, you would want to download the software provided by the manufacturer of the mouse. Some mice won't have fancy software, but if you are using a gaming mouse they will typically have an application to assign macros and keystrokes to each individual mouse button, as seen here:

Ah, I thought you were teasing <g>. I didn't know that about the 3 wheels. I'm not a gamer, though, so that explains it <g>.

So, I'm curious, we can assign a command to the mouse WHEEL of a 1-wheel, 2-button standard mouse, but we can't assign to the left and right buttons on the same standard mouse? That seems extremely odd!

I won't be dl any software or doing anything like you suggest as one possible solution, however. This is a _portable_ version of GIMP we're talking about so the whole idea is for it to run the same way, independently of the host computer without any additional fuss or muss. If GIMP can have customized commands assigned to the mouse wheel but NOT the mouse buttons (VERY odd), then I'm just going to have to live with that.

Thanks much. :)

It's not that odd. Can you change the use of the two main mouse buttons on the Windows desktop? (besides swapping them if you are lefty?). There has to be some consistency in the user interface.

Actually I'm just kidding about the multiple scroll wheel thing, it's just completely believable. I mean, I got 17 buttons on my mouse and some people can't understand having more than 5.
