So, you are copying the image from your navigator to Gimp? What navigator is this? Do you have a clipboard manager that shows what you have in the clipboard? In Gimp, did you try "Edit/Paste as new layer"?

all gimps have this feature, when you go onto an image just right click *copy*, then gimp *atleast should have done* paste the image from its clipboard onto the layer, but didnt, i keep getting that
message, and yes i tried that too but still the same.

You could just right click the image, save it, and open it up in GIMP.

All gimps? Or all navigators? All browsers have the feature, but they behave differently (for instance Chrome forces a background on PNGs with transparent areas). There are also sites where the image you copy/save isn't the one you think, the image you see is the background image and the one that you copy is an invisible 1x1 GIF in the foreground (this line of defense is easily circumvented).

What format of image is the original? Perhaps it's a type GIMP doesn't support.
