I have been searching all day long and I give up. I just got a bunch of new brushes and one of them is a series of 4 stitches that are oriented horizontally and look just like this - - - - . How can i run this in curves so that it still looks like stitches? When I stroke a path it creates a black mess(while using brush). When I drag and draw freehand the results are not much better. Is there anyway to make it so this can follow some sort of curved path? As if you are rolling the brush along a line like a paint roller and keeping the integrity of the brush? I'm using Gimp 2.6.10. Thank you in advance!!

PS. I realize this is easy to accomplish in other ways I just want to know if I'm missing a more simple way to use these long brushes.

You aren't missing anything except that starting with 2.7 you can have the brush rotate to follow the path.

If you want to make stitches with brushes, make a brush which is one short strike (the length of your dashes) in a canvas which is as big as the dash+space you want, and use a 100% brush spacing. But in 2.6 this will only work for horizontal/vertical brush strokes.

You might be able to fake it with minus signs or dashes and then text-to-path -> path-to-selection -> fill or paint the selection.

Seem to recall a morse code font that might be interesting.

You can also define the dash/dot patterns you want in the "Stroke path" dialog.

Of course you can, I'm not thinking straight today.
