I just opened up a project (.xcf) I hadn't worked on in a couple days only to find about half of the layers missing. I have no idea what's happened to them and I'd really like to get them back. Any idea how?

Details:
Using GIMP 2.6.11 and Windows Vista

I have to be honest with you, it sounds like you were working on the image and saved the XCF at some point, then carried on with some work, but you forgot to save the XCF when you finished.

If the layers weren't saved, you can't get them back. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply. But at least some of the layers were had been saved previously.

A simplified e.g. I might started drawing on day 1, saved & exited; opened the file up on day 2 added new layers, saved, exited. Opened them up on day 3 with everything still fine, added more layers, etc. But then I open the file up on day for and the layers from day 2 would have been missing but the layers created on other days would have still been there.

Hope that makes it clearer. I'd really still like to get this image back so if anyone has any other suggestions that would be really helpful.
