Hey guys! As a die-hard Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fan, this is what I'm looking forward to most in 2012. The trailer is incredible. Naturally, they recasted Ian McKellen as Gandalf (and he does an incredible job), the cast for Bilbo and the Dwarves looks great. I can't believe even after this is released, we have to wait a whole year again for part 2. Blah. But, two movies for a relatively short book?
So yeah. If you haven't seen the trailer, watch it here:

Yes! Someone else as excited as I am (and I'm sure sydney would be too, if she's still around, hah). As a kid, I used to be massively obsessed with the Lord of the Rings movies, but I really haven't seen any of them in years. I really need to rewatch them all in one sitting. But I've been waiting for the Hobbit for many years - Guillermo del Toro (director of Hellboy and some other things) was supposed to direct it a few years back, but he kept putting it off, and finally the lovely news came through that Jackson took his rightful position off him.
But yes, trailer looks great. I'm not sure if it'll be as 'epic', or grand, as Lord of the Rings - as The Hobbit is generally considered more of a kid's book than Lord of the Rings, with milder themes - but I'm still super excited. I love Martin Freeman, too, so delighted about that casting role. (I don't know if anyone watches the BBC miniseries Sherlock, but it features Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and they're both appearing in the movie - Cumberbatch to voice Smaug.) Quite a few other Fellowship members are reprising their role as well, apparently.
This is the first I'm hearing of there being two parts, though. Looking it up, it seems you're right. Ack, I've never really liked the idea of two-part films...but I trust Peter Jackson on this.

I don't think it's so much as a kids book as just a more lighthearted theme. Most kids wouldn't be able to enjoy or pay attention very well, it is written for an older audience, in my opinion. You just have to be older to understand the brilliance of Tolkiens writing. My dad used to read the Hobbit to us when we were little, so it has special significance to me. I've been trying to get him to read it to the younger 6 of us 9, cause they didn't get to experience it and we loved it. Quality time with Dad ;D
There's no reason it would be as epic or grand, really. But yeah, waiting a whole year for part two, after a year for part one... this is gonna suck. lol. I'm so infinitely glad Jackson is doing it after all... For something like this, you really need a director who himself has a passion for Tolkiens work, which he does, which is fantastic.
