I did blur it, it just didn't turn ridgid. Should the shadow layer be above the clouds layer?

Here are the final parts of a background I was making.

The Final Background

The Moon

The surface is aminly just a plasma filter with slight coloring added. I used Marvin's suggestion for a small amount of craters. I created a brush and painted white on black and the mapped to object. Here is the brush, http://overlord.ssmi.../cratertest.gih.

The Planet

If it is wanted I can explain, in general terms how I made the planet.

Give me any comments or criticisms. Hpoe you enjoy.

hi,

I say hello to all you Gimpers, as this is my first post here :)

i made a planet without any clouds and stuff, but looks good. Starfield is made with greg martins tutorial and a lot of experimenting.

I´ll try an earth like next.

Hope you like my try :w:

That's awesome. :o: I'll have to try it.
If you guys are interested in more effects/methods, you may want to try this site. The tutorials are for PhotoShop, but many of them are easily converted into GIMP.

Dragon Reborn: Thanks for that. There are practically infinate ways to create planets, so if anyone else finds some good techniques, please post them!

EDIT: I like your work, D00mi. That one and your previous entries are great. :h:

Here's an updated version of mine I did after following the tutorial by greg martin, that Clay Ogre found, though I don't seem to be too great at making star fields yet, but I'll get there.

not bad dragon!

2 things:

1. dont make your starfield too bright, i can see where you erased things, thats not good. Your stardust needs to get softened by gaushian blur (on 5 or so, test it) then its smoother.

2. dont use the standard gflare things, they suck :)

To make better bright stars i recommend using the standard brush in gimp (called "sparks") for that, problem is, that he uses some very big sparks sometimes, its random. Just brush with care on a seperate layer and press crtl+z if he makes a very big one. Then just colorize the way you want, maybe a unsharp mask to brighten it up even more and thats it.

i have the german version of gimp, so i dont know if "unsharpen mask" is the correct term.

Edit:

3. if u use a big sun, turn it to screen mode.

I would make less supernovas so it looks realistic. A supernova happens Once in 10 , 000 years or so so it's quite unusual to have 10 on one picture.
