The GIMP team released the latest development snapshot on the way towards GIMP 2.8, as announced over on gimpusers.com.

http://www.gimpusers...-2-7-3-released

One of the news for this snapshot is that the single-window mode is complete.

For Windows user 2.7.3 is available for both 32 and 64 bit PC
Support for python script is included !

personally i strongly suggest to get the (also)Portable version, it works as a charme out of the box and is compatiblewith older version running on same machine.

There are not disadvantage using a portable version...if installed as a normal program on the main HD, only when installed on external drive may be the disadvantage of USB connection acting as a sort of bottleneck ,and that may slow down a bit

Anyway also the standard version is available
but may require a bit of fiddling (as set up a enviromenthal variable) even more for computer that don't use English as language...
More the standard version will try to import preference from older version , that may cause the loading plugins & scripts for gimp 2.6 usually incompatible with gimp 2.7

So i repeat my suggestion,if you want try 2.7.3 just grab the portable version at 32 or 64 bit

Download from www.partha.com there you may found also extra plugin compiled for 2.7 (again for 32 or 64 bit )

Please don't disturb the gimp developers with comment on the 2.7.3 Windows build

For any problem or help request with that version refer to http://www.gimpchat.....php?f=7&t=1789

Just a note on the windows build, tablets on windows wont work es extended devices. So no pressure. GTK2 versions required for 2.7.3 are all broken in this regard. Unless someone fixes GTK for Windows that's how it's going to go out at 2.8.

Too bad !!
Not only too bad that is broken now, is even worse that (if i understand well your message) nobody is committed to find a fix for 2.8

And what about Linux ?
It is a Windows only problem or there are issues also on linux ?

The single-window mode sounds good. But this is the unstable version right? Will it screw up everything? Will all my plugins automatically move to 2.7.3?

@Jeremifier

Yes, the development version is the unstable version (stable GIMP version have even version numbers, like 2.4,2.6.. whereas unstable, development releases are uneven, like 2.5, 2.7 ...). There is no telling which plugins will work or if there are still terrible bugs, you're on your own trying out an unstable snapshot. :)
