If you haven't already heard Microsoft has bought Skype for $8 billion.

What do you think about this,
What do you think will happen with Skype,
and
What do you think Microsoft has plans to do with Skype???

Microsoft will make more money, and have more access to our personal lives that they already do.
When they buy Google, then I'll be really scared.

Actually I don't think Microsoft can buy Google. They may buy stuff that Google already owns. But I hardly believe Google will fall into Microsoft's hands. If it does, that would be just wrong.

Not if someone else buys Google first then Microsoft buys that company. =P

But yeah, you got a point there.

But since we are discussing Skype, I bet that they are gonna integrate it into Windows 8. Probably all other popular Microsoft stuff like Xbox Live and stuff.
The worst thing is, they might limit support to their own products. Support for Apple products, most probably iPhone might be as good as gone already. Which I think isn't really too likely to happen. But Apple is Microsoft's competition.
Microsoft did recently partnered up with Nokia. They are targeting the Cell phones from what I can see. Skype will be the perfect tool for the Windows Phone. Microsoft is just trying to overcome Apple's success.

I'm using Google Voice and Video instead of Skype now. I don't like any Microsoft products, now the Zune, Xbox, nothing. I will only use Windows, but that's it Linux is my personal choice.

I'd rather have Apple buy Google, but I doubt Google would go in anyones hands.

I agree with Nabeel - we'll probably see more integrated Skype support on future Windows phones, and that'll mostly be the extent of it. I don't think Apple's use of Skype is going to go down all that much.

And Microsoft definitely won't buy Google any time soon, I'd say. I don't think they even have the money to buy a company that (a) is worth so much already and (b ) has such a strong future ahead, with Android catching on strongly in the past year.

No actually I prefer Windows over both Mac and Linux :/
Doesn't crash on me. Plus from what I know, Gimp has problems of its own. I also prefer Xbox over all other consoles out :P. But that is mostly since Microsoft fails in anti-piracy security and thats just what I need.

My main concern about this is, I happen to use Skype, and already it's beyond a pain in the ass and a half to set it up on Ubuntu (and I STILL can't get audio or video to work because of how unfinished the Linux version is), and now I wouldn't be surprised if MS just drops the Linux version altogether.

Needless to say, I don't like this one bit.

microsoft taking over Google? Apple taking over Google? Stay realistic!

Even though Apple and Microsoft had a revenue of over 60 billions and Google had a bit under 30 billions last year, Google owns things like Youtube and Android and is in my opinion almost as powerful as Microsoft or Apple.
If nothing bad happens, neither Microsoft nor apple will have the capacities to buy Google in the next decade! (Probably also not the other way round)

I think for Windows-users the changes won't be that big, maybe it will be integrated in the next Mircosoft-versions like they always did with MSN. I see this development really relaxed. This way, Skype won't get into financial problems (it's still not profitable) and will probably get more user due to the integration in Microsoft-products. Not bad, if you ask me. The only fear I have is, that they could try to make it profitable, by adding advertisements everywhere, but I'm pretty sure that they want to keep the image of Skype.

Oh boy. Microsoft has already released an effed up update. Skype 5.3 although has drastically improved Mobile calling and video. But for the PC users its just awful. The new icons suck. And its been really slow and keeps crashing every now and then.
<_<
