1 - Is the "Path" tool the only to create a drawing with "nodes" ?

2 - Can you draw an object on a layer then later come back and...
... add more nodes?
... move nodes around?
... distort it 'smoothly' like when using a spline modeler?

I think your questions are answered here in the GIMP manual. Come back if you have more questions.

Thanks for the link however it doesn't answer the question of...

Can "come back" to a previously created "path" and add more nodes or move the nodes around.

Maybe that requires a "vector" drawing program and not a "paint" type program... unless Gimp is a hybrid...

Maybe some kind soul would help me out here with a little more info.

Thanks !

Usually, on the Layers window there is the Paths dialog tab. If it's not there, you can go to Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Paths and the Paths dialog will come up.

You can double-click a path thumbnail and it will come up in the image window with its nodes and you can move them about, add more, delete some, etc.
