How do i use .diff file for Gimp Painter?

Hey,
i been trying to get Gimp Painter patch working but not sure how to use the Diff file, i am using Linux. I gave a go at using the patch command but i don't really know what im doing with it.
If someone could tell me id be really grateful.

I got the source code for gimp 2.6.6, and tried using "patch -p0 < gimp-painter--20100521.diff". but got lots of errors. Is that the right command to use? Am i using the wrong source?

Maybe asking on the main Gimp IRC you may get better luck
