Can you post some screenshots for me? I'd like to see one of the brush dialog, one of the brush options dialog, and one of the animated path stroking dialog with all the settings you're using. Thanks, Art

 deleted them, but I will redo and post tomorrow afternoon. Thanks.

*as I'm working on recreating the graphic, I think I may have found my error....I have been forgetting to set brush spacing to 1! Lets see if that is it...

I guess that wasn't it.
Here is a screen shot...in the enlarged version I hope you can see the white dotted path (selected to show it) and the green dotted brush size...I am sure it's large enough to overlap the path but you can see where the white is not painted in, as if I used a smaller brush. Any clue as to what I am missing?

another example, a screen shot showing the size of the brush...the path was just a two-anchor one, straight across the center of the text line.

oh, I just saw that you wanted specific dialogs...back to the drawing board.
*here are dialogs...hope they are large enough in the full pic

So far so good, 2-ton. But, I need a couple more things from you...not trying to be a pest, but the answer, which might be easy to resolve, isn't obvious. I see a screenshot of my animated path dialog in the background, but can you show me a screenshot of your settings. Also, in the first path (the zig-zag one) can you do a right-click on the path and run the Path Direction script and show me the resulting image? I'd also like to see what your brush spacing is. Your second example should have worked with no trouble. If you still have the xcf file, maybe you could post that so I can fiddle with it. Sorry for all the requests, but something's not working properly.

dialogs edited into above post.
Path direction is left to right. Urm, kinda too lazy to go do another screen shot but I will if you need the exact green to red zig zag pattern.
I only have one xcf saved, not sure how to get a file out of it? How do I send an xcf file please.
I know I could just keep using the galaxy brush, but now I have my curiousity piqued as to what up, lol.

Can't figure it out, 2-ton. Send me a PM and I'll give you my email address and you can send it there. You shouldn't have to use just that brush, I only picked it for the tutorial. Certainly no magic in that particular brush.

I believe I used a calligraphic brush on mine. Sized it so it was wider than the penguins.

2-ton. Just send the xcf file to the email.
Attach > name.xcf

may depend from your mail provider

With Gmail there are no problem Yahoo was allowing only more commune format (but at least once to trick yahoo by renaming the file extension in jpg worked, except then has to be renamed back to xcf again to be opened)...but maybe now work with no complication also with yahoo

In any case zip the file solve any problem

I sent three or 4 to FP through his email and I think I used my msn acc't but that also works with Yahoo acc't..... and yes by all means as PhotoComix says you can compress and send as email, then pick rar......
Anyway, he received them okay.
2-ton, you can also send them through box.net, but email is easier......

my email provider is aol. It took the attachment, so I presume it worked.
I have a different kind of question now...is there a brush that will paint with a glow? You know when you make a glow line how it is bright in the center and semi-transparent and blurry along the edges?

I'll let you know later what I come up with.

Not that I'm aware of directly; however, you can probably accomplish it, but every image will probably require some experimentation. In the example below, I used a small, soft brush and stroked the path with white (I'm sure other colors would work), with the brush in normal mode. Then, I picked the next larger size, soft brush and stroked it with a desired color and with the brush in Hard Light mode. I continued a couple more times (with a larger brush each time) til I got this:

I'm sure there are other ways to do it. Experimentation is the key.

I couldn't leave it alone, lol, so I tried messing with this script. I did cave in and use the galaxy brush to paint the letters, but used a very small round to do the line. After many foobarred trials and tribulations, here is my little experiment.

Wow, that glow line is awesome, but looks like a lot of work!

Cool! I know you didn't want to use the galaxy brush, but I'm glad you got it to work. We'll figure out what's wrong with the other version.

Nope, about 10 minutes total and that's mostly cause I was experimenting with different blend modes.

Thanks, Molly.
People wonder how I can spend all day doing nothing but play with Gimp, lol.
*had to try it...I stroked the blue first, white second. I need to make a brush that has more blurring on the edge that the default soft brush to make a better glow.

ahhh, now I'm bummed. I finally got one of these set up, and I cannot use a gif animation on an igoogle site. grrrr. There must be some workaround, but I don't know anything about code and such.

Well, 2-ton, you definitely haven't lost it and it doesn't appear to be a fault of the script....at least I don't think it is. It appears to be an issue with vbr brushes, which all of the Circle and Calligraphy brushes are. I'm testing out some code changes to see if I can workaround it or maybe it's a bug in GIMP. Who knows? At any rate, I tested both the Calligraphy and Circle brushes with the selection turned off and here's what I got. Notice in both cases that the brush outline is much larger than the actual brush being used. GIMP randomly uses a smaller brush than what's active. The brushes you're specifying should more than cover the path.

I'll continue working on the script and post my results...if I can fix it.
