This is not a tutorial just a quick but useful tip
"Gimper " from Gimper.net released a handy tool to change theme and fonts of your gimp

All instructions and the download are on this page http://gimper.net/vi....php?f=20&t=626

the apps is based on a utility created by Alexander Shaduri, but this version has a handy installer taking care to place all files in the right places (and includes 15 themes)

For Questions, comments, thanks and what else refer to http://gimper.net/vi....php?f=20&t=626 :)

It's me, again with a problem :) What do I do if after installing that package I have only two themes available - the ones already available in GIMP preferences?

Edit:

also if you installed gimp in another folder other then default then your going to need to point the installation to where you installed gimp.

He just couldn't be more vague  as installer does not prompt for GIMP location nor there is any clue on which location it favors. Gimp main folder, bin, themes...? Besides, there is no possibility to "point the application" somewhere. I can only see a possibility to copy files.

PS
do you know that with 7zip you may open installers (with .exe extension ) as were zip or rar ?
It is not too surprising, installer are usually just self extracting archives, but may be not obvious, and could be handy

As example i could install gimp#..installer will refuse to work (it wants gimp 2.4 ...not 2.6), extract the files from the installer and move them in gimp plugin directory solve (other workaround would work too, but i found that quicker )

Will do. I have to go trough the topic again to make sure there's no answer to my question yet.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I started doing such crazy stuff from the first year I got my first computer :) In case of gimpthemes 1.0 nothing useful comes from unpacking the msi installer.

Here's my post http://gimper.net/vi...?p=72137#p72137
I kindly ask anyone to read it as I provided very detailed info on operations I've done and believe it or not - it worked for a while!

Ignore the video (well, you can watch it if you like :) ). Someone in the comments found a way to install the themes on gimp portable. Maybe their way of doing it might help you.

It didn't work for me because I have gimp installed normally and I couldn't install the themes twice to get it on my USB flash drive.
