Does Gimp Have An Auto-Save Option
#1

Here I am again with another question:
Does Gimp have a auto save option of any kind?
If there is a way could you give me instructions on how to get it working and under what conditions it will auto save?
I have V 2.6 if that means anything.

Mokonafanxox,
There is a python-fu plug-in for Gimp. You do have to have Python installed. If you use a Unix-like OS, like GNU/Linux, it's usually installed with the OS, but if you are a user of Windows, then you can try reading over the discussion here on gimptalk about that:
http://www.gimptalk....imp-t25587.html
First , I don't even know if the code works. Never tried it. So you you are on your own regarding using the code. I'm only offering what I found doing a web search for the terms:
gimp auto-save
You can copy the code from the site into a text editor and save it as maybe something like:
autosave_plugin.py (Do not save it as Filetype TXT or TEXT or whatever, usually you want to save it as filetype other. Saving as filetype TXT will cause the application to invisibly add a .txt or .text to the end of your file rendering it useless for Gimp to use.)
You need to make the file executable in the OS I use, GNU/Linux, but whether it's necessary and how that is done in Windows, I don't know.
Here is the site where I found the code:
http://www.mail-arch...u/msg18118.html
They discuss how the code works, or is supposed to work. You will have to run Gimp from a terminal window apparently according to the directions on the site. Please read all of the information on that site carefully before considering using any of this.
If there is a more updated script, you might find it at:
http://registry.gimp.org
Do a search there for terms like: save, autosave, auto-save, auto
to see if they even have the script or if so updates to it.
Finally ,note that the person who offered that script sees auto-save in a negative way. They only offered the script because of people asking for it.
I don't know if any of this will help you, but making it available for you to consider.
:)

Moved back to the original help forum:
may be a repetutly asked question but contain new answers, and they may be useful to others
I add a even newer solution a Autosave script (posted just 2 days ago in the registry )
http://www.registry.....org/node/20875
Well is a Perl script so of any use for who use windows (and i fear for who use Mac too )...anyway is another possible solution

I don't have python or perl (and am not skilled or patient enough to mess with them), so I have tried (& been pretty successful) in developing habits of saving often. Not only do I save when I complete a significant task, but I have trained myself to save every time I do something with the layers palette. It's not that a new, blank layer is so precious, but I use the layers palette frequently, so I save everything I've done in the last few minutes at the same time. Not just adding layers, but moving, renaming, etc., even turning visibility off and on again: I save. I pat myself on the back every time I remember to do this, and hardly every lose more than 3-5 minutes' work.
