Hello,

I am the author of RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool), a free program designed to efficiently optimize images for the Web.
It is used all around the world and is highly appreciated, even if was released to public only a year ago. There is a RIOT plug-in for IrfanView also.
Many GIMP users requested a GIMP plug-in that calls RIOT.
So, I started working on a RIOT - GIMP plug-in and I have now a working version. It still needs some fine adjustments and support for importing more image types from GIMP, but is functional.

RIOT has enhanced functionality over the existing „Save for web” plug-in. It can be used to optimize the selected area/active layer, feature not present in the Save for web plug-in which saves the entire (visible) image. It also handles transparency and has many other interesting features.

More info about the RIOT project here:

Not yet, but I plan to when I am sure this is tested enough.
The source-code will be published also at the registry as GPL.

I've been using RIOT with Irfanview for over a year now and with GIMP since last November. Lucian just release version 4.1 of this gem. The GIMP interface plugin still works and does not need to be changed. Just download the Irfanview dll package and copy (and overwrite) freeimage.dll and riot.dll in the GIMP Plugin directory (I use the .gimp2.x personal GIMP directory since I don't want to have anything but GIMP stuff in program files) and run GIMP. May get a few errors the first time you run GIMP; just ignor them (won't occur again the next time you run GIMP). Like the new interface and look forward to playing more with it as time goes by (just did a simple PNG w/ transparency save and it was like the old version, but you do now have the ability to add several PNG optimization add-ins if you want). :)

Looks like Lucian released and update to the gem. Saw the info on Betanews. :)

The RIOT.exe is the same; just copy the riot.dll and freeimage.dll in your personal GIMP Plugins directory and it will work (gave a PSPI error when I first ran GIMP, but the plugin works (went ahead and closed and reopen GIMP and no error afterwards; seen the behavior before, but know now to just ignore the error); 0.4.2 will be there. :)

There should be a clear indication that RIOT is NOT FOR LINUX. A proper note - not in the comments <_<

What's the best alternative to RIOT for GIMP on Linux?

I need help with Gimp Themes v1.0 for Windows
