My first ever tutorial, just wanted to try and contribute to the community. I tried to make it noob friendly, so if some explanations seem tedious, sorry bout that ^.^'


VERY IMPORTANT I forgot a step. when you start making the path, make sure its on a new layer that way you can duplicate it and erase it without any trouble.

As a side note: Get Creative with this! the mosaic effect alone can be used to do all sorts of stuff. i have two examples here:

Oh that's cool. I already knew about the pentool wrapping but the mosaic look is nice. Great work :]

What step? Also, Ridley, that is some pretty sweet pentooling.

Nice tut man, I've never done wraps before so I didn't know about the trick of doing all the anchors in a straight line first, then curving them. Like you said, I would've made the anchors to wrap around. Cool trick.

the step i forgot is to make a new layer before you stroke your path. if you dont, the path/twists will be on the background, and it will be darn near impossible to do the steps after that (the erasing and blurring)

i was kinda hoping someone would ask ^.^'

instead of using the rectangle select tool, i used the paths tool and drew myself the mountain and arrows. then i went select from path and followed the rest of the tut.

Woot, I managed to make a shape with the path tool, and do the cubes with the path selected and shadow, too...but...I'm not sure I am doing the erasing part right. Do you erase only on the cubed parts? I can't really tell if the erasing makes it look different or not. Other than that, it worked out really well.

i don;t think i completely understand, but you don't have to cut your wrapped portion out from the background. just make the wrap on your background. hopefully that makes sense.

nice tut. it looks good with the mosaic. but, just so you know, there is an easier way to do it. or the eraser part atleast, rather than zooming in, that i discovered the other day. if you do the pentooling, and then go back to the mosaic layer (or the render layer, or whatever youre working on) and use alpha to selection, then go back to the pentooling layer, you can easily cut off every second line exactly, without zooming in. just a tip.
