Edit: Actually, the symbol isn't showing correctly on this forum either. According to the Character Map, the code is 0x9D. I don't know how to make use of this information. Alt+0x9D doesn't work.

It comes out but my code list says it's, "not used." I get the same symbol you do.
When I do it in Open Office Writer with Webdings I get a page with a corner turned down and lines like writing on it. I tried it in gimp and it comes out like the one in here.
Here is where I get my codes.

To type the symbol you wish?..that remain a mystery for me,
the Flaming Skull will correspond to A ,B ...or to what? and which the letter for the Pirate and the Old Hippie's Skull ? :?:
How figure out? i may get a sort of character map but then what i am supposed to do over impose a standard ABC map to find the correspondences? :?:
Still a unsolved mystery

So unless you got a button like that you might wanna do a print screen and some rendering.

You can access them with special keyboard combinations such as the Alt + NumPad or Unicode. In the link up there to the ANSI characters the first column is the one you can use with the Alt + NumPad but you must add a zero to the beginning of the number.
If I were using Windows and wanted the euro symbol I'd do this: While holding down the Alt key, I'd type 0128 on the Number Pad and then let up.
Since I'm using Linux I have to use Unicode and do this: Ctrl + Shift + U, type the number for the euro (20ac) and press enter. Here is the resulting euro symbol: €. Unicode is usable in Windows or Linux.
Here is an example of a font that has extended characters. Scroll down to the bottom and you can see the font has extended characters. Some fonts don't have those.

Unfortunately, the Webdings character is one GIMP won't do. I have done other extended characters in GIMP and they work fine.
For example: those of you using the Swedish keyboard have access to this symbol: Å. I don't since I'm using the US English keyboard and I have to use Unicode to access it.

I hope I made my post about the extended characters above this one clear.
