Okay guys I know this isnt much good so I would appreciate tips. I have only just started. I wanted the writing to be like this:

Fayth
Finishing This Fight

The problem is I did not know how to do this. The render doesnt look right alothough I do not know what I did wrong. The font color could be improved.

^um i dont really know what you did wrong there but you could make master chief lighter (more visible) go Layers>Colors>Brightness-Contrast and im just throwing a wild guess here but for the text did you go Filters>text>freetype? i wouldnt used that because i dunno my text always ended up in the upper left hand corner and i couldnt do anything to it other that i wouldnt know sorry

anyways awesome little tut here i always wanted to know how to make that type of border now i know yay! anyways heres my result using handy dandy master chief :w:

7. Kewl, isn't it? Now to enhance the explosion a bit, you could add some stars. If you dont like using other people's brushes (yes I know some of you dont), you can use the pencil tool at different opacity to add every single stars :P . This is however, a very tedious and frustrating work and fortunately, we have an alternative. Crashdowngrrl of DeviantArt had made an awesome Night Sky brush set and thanks to Fencepost who converted them, a lot of time was saved. You can find the brush set for GIMP here:
http://www.deviantar...ation/22551705/

the link doesn't seem to work.... any alternate links pls?

This isn't the first tute to use this brush set and have the link be dead. I contacted fencpost and got the correct link, it has been fixed in the tutorial.

I just checked with fencepost, and the brushes have been pulled from deviantart due to a request from the original author, crashdowngirl. You might look into the starfield tutorial which is available on here, it is a conversion from a well known photoshop tutorial on making starfields.

6. Make another layer and repeat step 5, remember to generate with a different seed. Now you set the blending mode of both cloud layer to "Burn" and reduce their opacity to 50%. Your image should now look like this:

I am brand new to GIMP and I was wonder how I go about doing this without having the clouds out front.
