Thanks so much! This was really useful, especially since all those buttons are so intimidating at first start up. :)

Here's the one that I made:

Thanks for trying out the tutorial!

If both of you could supply me with a smaller version of your image (like a thumbnail link), I'd be glad to add them to the "Hall of fame" in the first post.

Howdy. I can see why so many people recomend this place. It's really useful. Anyways, here's the one that I made followin' your instructions, Griatch-sensei.

Looking good there, looks like you got all the steps. :)

Hy Griatch

About install plugin there are a few Gimp plugins at least on Windows that are not contained in a single exe file, but have some dll included (it come in my mind installing G'MIC , that is a example )
In that case may be better create a dedicated folder for that peculiar plugin only and then add is path as usual from preference.

That avoid , when unistalling or updating the plugin, the risk to forget orphan and maybe conflicting DLLs floating around

(i.e. Unistalling Gmic.exe will be very easy forget to delete also the related dll's, if everything was just dropped in a overcrowded plugin folder.
Instead if in a dedicated "gmic" folder will be no similar risk ,would just needed to move out the folder for a neat unistall

But here i am not sure this may be valid also for Linux

@Jjude

Glad you could get "hooked"! Fun outcome too, looks like you enjoyed yourself. :)

@Photocomix

I don't know of many Linux programs where the dynamic libraries are distributed alongside the executable (why isn't it just statically linked in that case?), but I'm no expert on gimp plugins or package distribution. It's a useful hint, but I think adding new plugins like this is probably a bit outside the scope of a beginner tutorial? Or?

@CDN

You are welcome. :D

It come to my mind because i had to trace orphaned DLL in my Gimp folder and was not nice (were easy to find but what not easy to figure out which were the orphan
i suppose you are right ,even more because seems a Windows only issues and limited to few plugin .

:D I did it! I stumbled upon your tutorial, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've had GIMP on my computer for years, but I've never been able to effectively use it until now. Thank you for creating such an accessible tutorial. Better than I've seen in a long time, even in expensive books!

It is no doubt the best ever written tutorial for beginners to get started without any hassle. Mostly (as far I know) new software seems difficult to ome users because of it's interface and too many options to choose. You just have simplified them perfectly. Even a professor of psychology can now learn gimp from your article :D.

Hats off to our talanted staff Mr.Graitch.

Nice! I've played around in GIMP for a while but never really bothered to try and learn what all of the stuff does.

This tutorial served as a great start for me. This is my first image with my tablet. :D

I'm satisfied. I did have one problem though; my selections aren't showing up! (The marching ants.)

I've already turned on "show selection" under view and in the preferences, but they just won't show up.

Disregard that it somehow works now, altough I can't seem to figure why.

Hi!

Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to follow. I'm not a begginer in Gimp, but still I decided to start from the beggining again, so finally I did it.

Phobucket works fine, you were simply having weird formatting in your previous attempts (I deleted the failed posts, you know you can also edit your posts, right?)

Thanks for trying the tutorial! Nice guy with a pronounced nose and hat coming down over the eyes, looking good. You don't seem to have used quite the same settings in the tutorials to set the background, but that's fine, as long as you learned something. :) You had some issues with the text it seems, GIMP is almost invisible, worth checking out maybe.

Anyway, good job for your first gimp image! Putting this up in the hall of fame. :D

Hey thanx for this tutorial. It helped me out in the long run. Before I was like 'How the hell do people understand GIMP?' and now it's like 'Oh, GIMP is very fun and very easy to use if you get used to all the buttons and gadgets'. Thanx ^^

EDIT: Posted Image

This is what I made with your tutorials ^

I kind of [screwed] up with the text but hopefully I get better at it. =p
