Its a nice idea to start a tutorial with the use of images. As all know that if we see any images then it remain for a long time in our mind as compare reading text.

Hey, thanks for the great tutorial! I'm having some problems with 2b).
When I go to preferences>interface>configure keyboard shortcuts>context, the context tab is labelled disabled and I am unable to access any contents of that section. Any help is appreciated! Did I miss something in the reading? I'm tired, so I may have missed something!

Hmm, It is labeled Disabled also here, but there is a little arrow on the left that should open up the contents for full view. If you are missing that, I don't know, I've never heard of that problem before, sorry. Worst case, make sure you have installed GIMP correctly.

Hi,
The problem I am having is getting fonts to appear in Gimp. It worked yesterday where I got 2-3 fonts to appear. I tried putting up more today and it didn't show up. I spent an hour or 2 trying different ways. I can see the fonts in adobe Photoshop but not gimp. If you can help please that would be greatly appreciated. I have windows xp sp1 with gimp 2.4.7
What I tried:
Reinstalling Gimp
Rebooting the computer
Recopying/pasting
Steps I took to put the fonts on:
1) Downloaded it and put it into the Gimp's Font folder
2) Opened Gimp (still didn't appear)
1) Downloaded the fonts and put it in the Systems Font folder
2) Opened Gimp(Still didn't appear)
Also I added brushes and they worked like a charm. Its only the fonts that are giving me the problem.

... Oh, and you know that you are using a very, very old GIMP version right? Current gimp version is 2.6.11, so it's time to upgrade! :) Besides, this tutorial assumes at least GIMP 2.6.0 or higher. A lot improved since the 2.4 series.

Thank you Thank you! I learned how to use gimp a while back when I was just starting to attend college. I ended up getting photoshop and have left gimp alone. This of course was years ago and am now learning gimp all over again. I wish this was around when I started lol thank you very much *hugs*

Here's my smiley face. db.tt/bVECfGO (It won't let me post links until I have 5+ posts) I use Linux, though I still don't have the Fog filter. I'm gonna have a talk with other packagers, and, possibly, fix the package myself, since I'm a packager for the distribution I use, PCLinuxOS. It probably wasn't compiled with Python support, in order to reduce dependencies. Anyway, thanks once more for the tutorial. It helped me with some stuff, though I'm not exactly a complete beginner to GIMP.

Hello, thanks for the great tutorial. It is really helpfull. I had formatted my mothers laptop and had to reinstall Gimp for her. She has had classes on using Gimp but had stoped so she knows a bit but needs to figure the rest out herself. I thought having a forum where she could get help would really be good for her so I signed up on gimptalk for her. Not knowing how the program works I struggled a bit especially with getting new brushes for her. That is what eventually led me to the tutorial through google searches etc. The smiley face was so cute and the steps so easy I found myself learning to use gimp. The problem now lies in my lack of knowledge when it comes to forums. Ive read lots of forums in the past but have never really used one. Is there a tutorial that is just as easily understood as yours on using this forum? I hope that Ive at least got the thumbnail thing right. I read the post you linked to, for clarity just pasted below, and followed the steps.

Otherwise you need to manually supply what the imagehost does automatically for you: A web adress to your thumbnail (small image) and the address to your big image (the one you want to load when clicking thumbnail).
