Very well thought-out tutorial. Thanks for sharing it! I think it helped me get used to the general interface of GIMP. :D I feel that the most difficult part was adding the brushes, and I'm still not sure if I did it right.

Here's my image thumb:

@InTheSystem

Nice one. Glad the tutorial was of use to you. I'm putting your thumbnail up in the hall of fame. :)

@urmi

Hi urmi and welcome to GIMPtalk! Thanks for trying the tutorial!

Easiest is if you upload your image to a free image host like http://www.imagehost.org/ When you do, you get a thumbnail code which you can copy&paste into your post so as to get the image in there.

You can also take a look at the second post of this thread for more help:

Good luck!

@sneaky_squirrel

Welcome to GIMPtalk and fun to see you got through the tutorial in one piece. That's one nice grin there! :D Hope you'll have a good future time on GimpTalk.

I took the liberty of fixing the image link so your image shows. If you could supply me with a smaller version of this (say half the size), I'll gladly put it up in the Hall of fame at the top. :)

Thanks for the tut. I learned a lot. I have to figure out how to save in formats that you can see the pic. I saved it as a gif. I use photobucket and jpeg. and png. didnt work.

What do you mean PNG won't work? You should always save png, much better quality. Maybe we can help?

I saved first in pdf. because that was my second attempt at tut cause program froze. I need to paste a "save often" post it on my pc lol. So when I was finished I went to "save as" and changed file format to png. first but it wouldn't let me. It gave me a box, sorry I forgot what it said exactly. So I tried that and jpeg. Something about greyscale and having to export. When I still hit ok and save it kept it in pdf. with no changes. So I tried gif. and it worked.

@MusePopUlricke

Fun smiley face! Glad you had some use of the tutorial!

Some comments:
If you look at the hat, you'll notive a white line inside it. If you wonder why that appeared, is because you chose to select the inside of the hat instead of marking it manually. To fill it without manyally selecting one needs to play with the threshold values which is a bit beyond this tutorial.

As for save format, you should really trust what I write in the tutorial and always, always save as XCF. From there on you can use "Save a copy" to save to PNG or GIF, PDF or whatever you prefer. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches that way... ;)

Sure thing. If you use it a lot, I would appreciate you link to it from your tutorial though. :) Would be fun if you put up the link to your tutorial here too!
