Click the refresh button on the patterns tab, it's the one next to the wastebin and looks like if has two semi-circular arrows on it.

I think I have an easier way: how about just copying the original layer, pixellizing one of 'em, apply a transparent layer mask to it, and just brushing over in white what you want to show. The border can be used in it though. Maybe I'm rushing through important steps! I just use the same tutorial, or something like it, for selective coloring. Great tutorial.

bash: you make me feel unloved with your excuses
pixkid@macmini~$ echo What? Are you insinuating that I do not eat your food? When did shells ever execute commands relevant to cooking?
bash: shells duh ever think of seafood
pixkid@macmini~$ echo No fair, stop searching puns, you have Lynx and Google to use!
bash: ugh you humans are so annoying

The layer mask skills will help do many other tricks like changing your photos of bad vacations to photos of vactions at some resort island.

Here's something I just made with your quote, I turned an astronaut into a wooden mannikin:

Why the heck are you using the lasso tool? The paths tool is much easier, since even if you have shaky hands, you can fix it with a few clicks instead of starting all over. XP After you've got your path, you just go to select>from path, and you have your selection...

I hate freeform select tools. XP I do love the effect, though, and I think I'll try it next time I'm GIMPing.
