Start by going to the Help menu and activate one of the in-program tutorials. That will get you started. Play around a bit, 30 seconds is not enough to learn any program. :) Inkscape is different from GIMP in many ways, but it's very good at what it does!

Sure, you can make a sig with it. In fact, I use Inkscape side by side with Gimp - but make sure you have more than 512 mg's of RAM before you try. I make most of my desktop images with Inkscape and make small logos that are too complicated for Gimp to make (for instance, perfectly tiled clones). Inkscape tends to be much less complex than Gimp so it's a breeze to master.
pixkid@macmini~$ open -a Gimp.app bash: you want fries with that pixkid@macmini~$ echo No thank you, I am on a diet. bash: you make me feel unloved with your excuses pixkid@macmini~$ echo What? Are you insinuating that I do not eat your food? When did shells ever execute commands relevant to cooking? bash: shells duh ever think of seafood pixkid@macmini~$ echo No fair, stop searching puns, you have Lynx and Google to use! bash: ugh you humans are so annoying bash: logout [Process completed]

Inkscape is a vector graphics editor application. Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more.
