Can anybody help me get GAP to work on my mac (with tiger)? I have tried downloading it and compiling it with darwinports but that didn't work, there were errors with the Terminal scripts.

Also I read from somebody who did compile it successfully, and it still didn't work. GIMP didn't have GAP.

On Mac may be complex i don't think there is a already compiled version or even a step by step guide to compile

You may try to get help on the Gimp IRC http://sourceforge.n...group_id=211713

And here other link that may be useful http://gimp.lisanet....e/Overview.html.

Also for windows the situation is no too nice , will be needed a new build from the last SVN but seems not easy ,maybe also because GAP is not a single plugin but a pack of plugins

ah ok..i do not think that was too relevant

anyway to install in the Gimp portable is needed a simple workaround.

1 )
First download GAP here http://photocomix-re...ces.deviantart. ... s-77466242
2 create a new folder, whatever is handy for you (in Document, or in Program Files, i suggest not on the desktop but only because there can be deleted by mistake.
Folder name is not important but i suggest something more clear then "new folder" (i.e i called mine GAP )
3 now run unzip the installer..in ythe installer you will see a default path something as C:Program Files/gimp-2.4
4 in the installer at right side of that path there is a search button
Use to find that new folder you have created, as result you should see the path change to point on that folder
Run the installer
5 now open that new folder , search inside, you should see 2 folder inside "plugin" and script...open the plugin folder
6 open the other zip you downloaded, the "bugfix files" , extract the 2 files and move them in the plugin folder you have opened
A warning will pop out asking if you want overwrite the files, click yes

7 well now is basically done, start gimp enter in File/Preferences/Folder there in "plugin"
Now there you should see a "new Folder" icon, click there, then click search the icon is "..." 3 points
Search for your new folder, and for the plugin folder inside.
Click ok
Repeat same step for the script folder, again do not forget to click OK

Then you may just restart gimp and use gap

If you have some doubt on step 7 is described with more details and screenshoot here beginning-with-gimp-starting-tutorial-for-new-users-t34772.html
in the chapter Adding new things to GIMP

This installer seems to be in English only. I have GIMP in Polish but all Video menu is in English. On Ubuntu everything is fine.

On debain and debain based distros just do this -

cd to the directory

./configure

make

make install

Those previous commands install GAP on the GIMP installation or does it just create the files in a folder for later to put them where they belong?

The commands presented by Twitch will install GAP directly on the computer. In order to make a Debian package, you will need to do things slightly different. Replacing the last line with 'checkinstall -D make install' might work (I haven't tried it) to make a simple Debian package but without proper dependency resolution and conflict detection.
Everybody makes their own fun. If you don't make it yourself it's not fun, it's entertainment.

It should create a gap folder and you put the gap folder where it needs to be.

Now there are .deb builders with a gui if you are scared to build from source.

I think one is called debbuilder.

UHmm no... atleast I don't think so.

I gave instructions for linux distros.(which it seems to work for any distro not just debain based).

For windows xp google how to do what you are asking.

compile gap
start MSYS
cd gimp-gap-2.6.0
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=c:/MinGW/lib/pkgconfig
./configure --disable-libmpeg3 --enable-libavformat
(if error, mostly that you are miss some lib, built it or find it)
make
make install-strip

see http://www.gimptalk....16.html#p199416

step 2, GAP2.6 need newer version of these lib(ex. gimp-dev-2.6)
but that web site did not provide it
so you need built it you self or find it in the internet.
