Great job Admiral and when you try this PG I would love to see a result.
Anyway Admiral if you saved it as an .xcf then I can help you.
First step is to make a new white layer and fill up the entire layer with the sparks brush. Now go to your final flame layer and press layer-transparency-alpha to selection. Reselect the sparks layer, invert selection and then clear. Now since you aren't going after green fire desaturate this layer and set it to overlay.
If that doesn't suffice ( I doubt it will since I didn't actually think about what I was writing you can IM me at RealHuffdaddy.

Now go to your render layer and select: Layer>Transparency>Alpha to Selection then Select>Shrink 5-10 pixels. Now activate you’re quick-mask (The box in the lower left hand corner) and do a Gaussian blur of 30 then a pick with a repeat of around 45.

I like alot your tut, and the outcome was fabulous! I will try it now.

Well I'm a couple weeks late, but I suppose later is better than never, I hope you all agree, anyway:

X-Jen: No it doesn't have to be 1000 x 1000 I just found that size to work consistently for me. As long as the "flames" don't go off the edge; any size is fine.

Humble: Go to the unaltered layer of your image/focus then press Layer>Transparency>Alpha to Selection then click Select>Shrink and set the value between 5 and 10 pixelss. In the lower left hand corner of your GIMP window you should find a small dashed-line box click that and your iamge should be outlined in pink. Finally go to filters>Blur>Gaussian blur and set the values to 30 Now go to Filters>Noise>Pick and set repeat to around 45. I hope that is a little clearer.

Pepsipete: Thanks for the compliment and good luck.

LaRozz: I'm sorry dude, I didn't realize that anyone needed help here. Anyway to make a sparks layer is fairly simple. Make a new white layer, take your sparks brush and fill the layer up. Voila, you are done.

I was on step 5. (Duplicate your picked layer and place the duplicate behind the render. Run a pick with 25 randomization on this layer. Then do a Gaussian blur of 3 on both pick layers before desaturating them.) I desaturate and by step 6 it is still gray.

Yeah, the final step of the tutorial is coloring the flames. You just have to be patient.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "patient." I did the steps and nothing happened but the render turning gray with some gray flames.

You are desaturating your render layer in some manner then. You should only desaturate the flame layers. I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what it happening. :c: I hope things work out.
