@Paula

Welcome to GIMPtalk!

That is a fun variation on the tutorial! You have not only made a child (a pretty difficult thing), you also portray her at a more difficult angle than in my example. Good! I really like her jacket, and the folds and wrinkles on it. You have also captured the soft features and round cheeks of a child, works very well I think. You might want to take a look at the top of her head, whereas children do have proportionally larger heads than adults, the head does feel a tad too bit here (look at the image from a distance or flipped to get a fresh view). The hair itself came out very well though (is that a cool use of my rake brushes I see there? :D), I like the few "off"-hairs on her and the red hair-band, adds more life.

Overall a very nice variation! If you supply me with a thumbnail I'd be happy to put it up in the hall of fame at the top of this thread. :)

@MrGimpDE

Welcome to GimpTalk and thanks for the trying the tutorial! She looks aristrocratic, nice. :) You've gotten to a similar skin tone and overall it looks like you got things right. One thing is that you might want to take a look at the position of her eyes relative to the chin, it feels like they are slightly too far up, making her face very long (there are people with long faces though, by all means).
Good job there, I'm glad you had fun with this. If you supply me with a thumbnail I'll be happy to put your result up in the hall of fame at the top of this thread. :)
Keep it up!

Hallo Griatch,

you are absolutely right with her eyes! Proportian lines where ok, but something
went wrong during painting. So I justified the eyes a bit and I substituted the
original image. Thanks again for commenting my result.

I can only admire you for your fantastic work!!!

@Alexiadeath:

Hi and sorry for my late reply, haven't kept up with this thread for a while. I must say your portrait is very much improved. I really like those colours and subtle textures you put into her skin. You managed to convey a proper personality which I think is the most important part of a portrait (and which the original tutorial image is not doing so well to be honest). The only point of critique I could offer here concern her eyes that come across as a tad too flat; shading the curvature of the eyelobes will help with this. I also believe a slightly brighter highlight in her eyes will do a lot for bringing those eyes alive.

But that's minor stuff, this is a very, very nice portrait, alexiadeath. Thumbs up! If you supply me with a thumbnail I'll be glad to put it up in the hall of fame. :)
