open your image.
here I will use a sunset...
(i personally think it looks and works better on landscapes...)

(I am using thumbnails to save space btw)
Step one:
open image
Step Two:
Duplicate it.
Step three:
Blur the duplicate at about 20 x and y
Posted Image
(normal size)
Step Four:
desaturate the duplicate image.
Step Five:
blur it again, about 10 x and y
Step Six:
filters>colours>map>gradient map
(best gradients are bluish...sunsetish, its more dreamy, but you choose)
Step Seven:
filters>artistic>cubism
pick any values.
Posted Image
Step Eight:
gaussien blur...i did x and y seven
Step Nine:
Choose the layer mode to Multiply or any of your choice, reduce the opacity till you like.
Step Ten
Flatten image
Step Eleven:
Add a supernova of any colour.

I also blured the final image at x and y 3

Posted Image

you could also add other effects like I did in my pictures, and use for example mosaics instead of cubism...
Its up to you!

Hope this was useful

Sweet_kitty22,

It's great that you made this tutorial. Many here at gimptalk, including myself have made tutorials where no one responded. It's not really a problem, because not everyone who uses tutorials posted here on gimptalk is a member. Many people just like to visit and look at the tutorials, and use them, but since they are not a member, they can't comment.

So unpopular is a relative term. If you look at the bottom of the forum page, it shows how many members visit here vs. how many non-members, and there are many more non-members who visit, so there is really no way to know just by member comments how well your tutorial may be doing since most visitors to the site are not members.

The more important point is you made a tutorial that is easy enough to follow. I read through the instructions and they are nicely done and seem easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time to make the tutorial and post it here at gimptalk. It's always appreciated. :h:

That's a very interesting tutorial. I'll have to try and utilize it sometime. It is a shame that not many people have replied, though. I still think it looks fantastic, so keep it up! Your tutorial is easy to understand and the product looks magnificent. Don't be blue, you've got something really good going!

I am playing with it a little, between Dr's appointments and some work I'm doing for an upcoming art show. I applied it to a photo I took of the moon. I didn't flatten the image because I like keeping my layers whenever possible, because it allows for more editting choices. I centered the Supernova on the moon and took a copy without the supernova over it. Selected the night sky in the copy without the supernova and deleted the night sky. Now the supernova is behind the very colorful moon. I am playing with the opacity of the top layer. I will post it when I finish it.

Sweet_kitty22,
You are off to a great start! Do not get discouraged! I've done a few tutorials. Some were liked less than others, but none appealled to everyone. I see a lot of potential in your work and your effort. Your creativity is very inspiring and I look forward to seeing your talents grow. Keep up the good work!
