hey, I tried this, it started looking really good, I was wondering however how you did the reflection, I just used a copy at some 46% opacity and used a transform and eraser tool to make it, here's mine
^^ Nice gold one, man!

if there's an easier way to make a reflection, please tell me, thanks!

Thank you for this really great tutorial. It was fun. I had gotten stuck on this part of the tutorial though:
The problem was it wasn't selecting or "outlining" the selection, at first. It was because Feather Edges in Tool Options had a check beside it, so I unchecked it and then everything worked fine. :l:
On the last two globes, I was trying to get that clear glassy look to it, but was unsuccessful, all in all though, I'm happy with my results. Thank You for this tutorial. :l:
Here are my results:

Now, grab your ellipse selection to and drag an ellipse from the upper left hand cornerof the guide intersection to the lower right handcorner of the guide intersection. I have designated these locations with a red and yellow dot, respectively. The dots will not be on your screen. If you performed this step properly, you should have a selection that matches the upper edges of the Bottom Cover.

These tutorials are so cool. I never though I would be able to do image manip programs.
I saw the part of this posted in Ali's globe tutorial and came up with this before I saw this full tute. I'll try again and add the rim and all.

ok here's one with rim.

Thanks for the ideas fencepost.
