Bumpness.

There's a grand total of 3 members online...on a forum of 7000 some odd registered members and 1000's more guests...

Just for those confused about the server in a stand alone IRC (my mIRC, for example), the server is: irc.dalnet.com, see I would make a larger tutorial on how to download an IRC client (or even use some poor guys free one :w:), but it's getting late, and I'm tired.

@Tarkenfire

A tutorial on some other IRC client is a good idea. I'm running Chatzilla here (Firefox extension), but there's a plethora of other clients out there. I don't use Windows myself, so if you want to write a tutorial on some of the windows offerings, that would be great!

@sir hobo

It's not broken.
You need to have an IRC client installed before that link works. If you're running Firefox, install the "Chatzilla" extension, then clicking the link will work. If you're using Opera, you'll have an IRC client included already. If you're one of those inexplicably still using IE, you're gonna have to install a separate client and log in manually. Install Xchat and you're good to go. :-)

Some more minor tweaks ... It seems people are on a different time zones however. I'm always logged in, but I see I've missed a few of you while being away from the keyboard.

Anyway, if you're having trouble with IRC, I suggest you reading the first post.

There is also a 'bot in the chat now -- the "GIMPtalk-bot". The bot looks like a normal user but is infact a program that you can talk to and have do some fun and useful things.

It can be talked to by name or by using @ in front of your commands.

Useful commands to begin with are

@ list (lists the current modules available)
@ list (lists the commands for a module)
@ help (gives help on a particular command)

To use some of the commands, like adding new phrases or help info, you need to tell the bot who you are. In situations when you have to insert a password, you have to talk to the bot in private (/msg GIMPtalk-bot) so as to keep your password invisible to others.

@ register will register with the bot. You will still not be able to do everything though. Use @ whoami to make sure the bot knows who you are. If not, use @ identify to log into it.

Fun things to try:

@ news (read channel news, by number, skip the number to get a list of news items.)
@ insult (will have the bot insult something. Like @ insult Griatch will have the bot call me names )
@ praise (will praise something. If you're registered, you can add new praises with @ praise add )
@ dice 2d6 (will roll 2d6 -- that's RPG jargon for dice if you didn't know, you can give any dice type.)
@ roulette (play russian roulette)
@ tell (leaves a note for a user for when s/he logs back on.
@ notes (read notes people might have left you with the @ tell command)
@ seen (tells you when a user was last seen/active on the channel)
@ rss gimp.org (reads headlines from gimp.org)
@ todo add (adds things to your personal todo list (requires the bot to recognice you).
@ reply (has the bot reply back to you. Commands can be nested creating rather cool results)
@ nickometer (tells you, in percent, exactly how lame your nickname is. "Griatch" is apparently very cool at 0.0%)

... and many more. Use @ list and @ help given above to look it up. More info is found on http://supybot.com/.

I see some people dropping into the channel, hanging around for only a few minutes and then leaving, disappointed that noone talked to them. Please be patient, one cannot watch that window all the time you know. Give it more than five minutes at least...
