Sculpt Tools

:o: I have been waiting for Blender to have something like this ever since I learned about the amazing ZBrush... I was even considering buying ZBrush just recently, and then I saw the above link.

So, what is this, anyway? Basically, it would allow you to use your mouse (or a tablet like mine :w:) to push and mold a model like you would clay. No more direct vertex editing, except for the basic model structure. That means you can add ridiculous amounts of detail to a model very easily. You can even use different brushes (maybe even custom-made ones as well) to paint physical textures directly on to your model. The changes would be in the geometry, not the material. I'm so excited. :l: :l: :l:

I am definitely getting into blender if it is going to have this! But do I have to have a tablet?

JBB: No, you won't need a tablet. A mouse will work just fine. The only thing you get with a tablet is pressure controls (supposedly), so you can press harder and shape the mesh more. A mouse will work, though.

There are more cool features coming, too; check it out.

I'm not sure. Maybe tomorrow, maybe a month from now. But probably soon, since they've reached the beta testing phase.

If you click the link I gave in my last post, you can download the prerelease. I'm playing with sculpt mode now. It's amazing. :o:

Sculpting brings detailed modeling to the newbies! It's so easy and fun! :h:

~3 hours of work there. Not counting Blender crashing. Which it likes to do on my newly upgraded Fedora 6 machine. :s:

Here's a good tutorial on making a basic head (though the proportions are a little distorted):
http://kotinetti.suo...rial1/index.php

If you feel confident in your knowledge of Blender, you may try this really really good (but somewhat advanced) one:
http://wiki.cgsociet...ex.php/Portrait

Once you have a basic head shape, it's time to sculpt sculpt sculpt... (you will need Blender 2.43 for this.)

Well, I downloaded it, seems to work okay, haven't done anything with it yet, and I may wait until my new "toy" arrives.

WOW...take a look at the release notes!
