I like the colours. :) He really has the grumpy face there too. Anatomy is somewhat difficult to get right with this pose. The arms and hands are also difficult and possibly his hands are a bit too simplified. Also compare the size of his right arm to the left one, there is quite a difference in size. When making the hip section, it can help to draw the hips as a "bikini bottom", that is panties with empty holes for the legs; this will make sure it gets large enough to hold the hip balls. As it is you might consider extending the hips a bit in a future image; if you consider the belt sits above the hips most of the time, there is not much room left for his genitals. :)
I like the large sack and his belly, works fine. He has a lot of stuff to lug around!
It's great that you try this out, it's a difficult pose and good for training on! I'm putting it up in the hall of fame. :)

thank you :) I find my Error when i painting i choose a small resolution and i cant downscale brush more A4 is better u can paint more detail juhuhu wait on my new image will be better and huge :D

Thanks for trying the tutorial! Cool idea with the bard and I like the huge guitar he's holding. :) The collar of that jacket is interesting too, very stylish. As for comments, the main things to improve is the anatomy I guess. It's a tricky pose you chose, so it's not easy to get right. His head is somewhat too small to the rest of the body (the face is very difficult to get right too, the right eye seems somewhat too high up). On the other hand you have made the arms the same length which is good - it's a common mistake to make them different length when one is bent like that. Finally I think the feet look very small for those strong legs of his. Easiest way to get tricky poses like this right is to get a Lay figure - a small wooden mannequin you can bend and place in different positions. I have one and use it all the time.

Anyway, this was intended as a tutorial on quick sketching a character and this looks like an interesting character indeed! Good job. If you give me a thumbnail I'll happily put it up in the first post. :)

I tried to have his head look down facing the ground, couldn't figure out how to do that. Thanks for confirming the small feet (I thought I was paranoid with their size, I might get a lay figure later on), but oh well, practice makes perfect.

I like the dynamics of your image. :) I get the feeling of him dancing - it's maybe not very realistic with the sack and all, but it makes the image fun and vivid. I think he is also somewhat smiling, which also adds to the impression! As you yourself mention, there are some things one could fix; notably the anatomy is somewhat off here and there - try bending your arm by your elbow and you'll see your hand ends up just below your shoulder. Imagine doing the same with the farmer's arm to check the anatomy. Also his hip-section is a bit too short if one wants to be realistic; but for first a sketch in GIMP, this is very promising. Thanks for trying out the tutorial, hope to see more from you in the future. I put this up in the hall of fame at the top post. :D

Hello Griatch, I tried out the tutorial, and i must admit, i spent far more time on it than probably intended xD Anyway, this is my attempt, I must say, i had trouble with the shading(I've always had a problem dictating where shadows go and the form of them for some reason) as well as replicating your results with the "Crayon Brush". I know there are some anatomical errors(specifically with the arms, they seem to be a little too big). Anyway, any feedback and criticism would be greatly appreciated :)

Nice work! I like his face and expression, especially the lines around his mouth. I do believe you when you say you spent more time than planned with it. ;) Critique-wise you yourself mentioned the arms but it does not stand out very much I think; not until you really start to look for critique at least. The chest is somewhat small, but there are people shaped like pears, so it's probably okay too. Shading is difficult but I think you did well here; the main use in a sketch like this is not to show realistic lighting but to make sure all elements of the image are well separated -- and this you have done nicely. Good touch with the solid-grey sack and white sash; stands out well and brings forth his head.
Glad you tried the tutorial and got such a good result! I'm putting it up in the hall of fame! :D

Thank you for the response, and i'm glad you liked it :D I just noticed the pear shaped body, and realize its a result of me giving him the big ol' belly xD But i guess it works :) Thank you again for the tutorial, I'll definitely be trying more of yours in the future :D
