It dioesn'y matter. I save it oce as a .xcf, and a .jpg, so you can have one to post on the net, and one to edit.

I first thought you may want to add that you should set the colour balance layers to overlay, but it doesn't seem to have been a problem for anyone, so nevermind.

Simply double click on the black square, which overlaps the white one, on the main GIMP window.

Amazing that a lot of the things I do are finally being documented. Also amazing that I can see where people have used my brushes. ;)

It's always good to experiment with other blending modes other than just overlay.

contrasting colors show up better through dodge, divide, and screen. "Grunge" has no defined style other than dirty, so colorfulness is not exempt.

Thak all of you for your great comments.

Prowler yah i loved your brushes. They are great!!

As for the Layer question.... i always use transparent layers. If i need it filled i just use the bucket tool to do it!

Yes, Morticia, you are right. You never said to set your Color Balance levels to Overlay. That is a crucial thing, because if it is not said, many people will just have a colored cloud as a final result. This is a good tut and It helped me. Thanks!

Ok, I'm having a bit of a problem. Everything has worked perfectly up until the last step, where I am supposed to set a new layer for Color Balance.

I've made the new layer, but when I try to apply a color balance...nothing changes. Colorize won't work either. I've set the layer mode to overlay and normal, neither works.

Can anyone give me any advice? My first color layer worked fine, but this one won't. =(

Thanks! And great tutorial. =)

Yep, I made sure the top layer was selected when I tried to apply the color balance. At one point I also turned off all the other layers so that I could only see the top one and the plain, uncolored background: still no change.

Ok I am gonna ask this just in case. Did you render clouds into this layer before you tried the color balance?

If you did try these
1: Make sure the little check box next to the layer mode in the layer dialog is not checked. It should say Keep transparent

2: Try Layer>Colors>Desaturate than Layer>Color>Color Balance

3: Try Seclecting the paint tool set it to color or soft light and pick your color. Than fill the clound layer!

If none of those work i really don't know what to tell you!
